About Muntú

Founded in 2018, Muntú is an International and Interdisciplinary Research Group on African and African Diaspora Studies produced in/about the Francophone, Germanophone, Hispanophone, Lusophone, Anglophone, Arabic, Asiatic worlds, etc. It emerged as an echo of the eponym and central African notion of muntú promoted by the prolific Afro-Colombian writer Manuel Zapata Olivella who defined it as a concept of unity/solidarity among human beings. Thus, Muntú, is a unique international/global network of scholars, teachers, writers/artists, filmmakers, translators/interpreters, students, and activists who share a common interest to foster the interdisciplinary/multidisciplinary studies of complex issues related to Africans (from Maghreb to Sub-Sahara) and their descendants (dispersed) in Asias, Europes, Oceanias, and Americas, including Latin America (from Hispanic Regions to Brazil and Caribbeans), Quebec, and US.

Muntú is an International Research Group where all languages spoken by the members are meant to be accepted.
